Pretty much everyone is aware that remote work has skyrocketed over the past two years. Some companies are continuing to embrace that, offering remote work options for their employees. Other companies are calling everyone back to the office. And still, others offer something somewhere in between. What’s more, is that certain companies are actually actively hiring remote workers.
Blockchain Companies with Remote Positions
Flexjobs sent out a news release earlier this year about the companies hiring for the most remote positions. In it, they listed 25 companies throughout the world that are offering the highest number of jobs that don’t require in-person work.
“Work-from-anywhere jobs are highly coveted positions, and even despite the challenges faced during the pandemic, digital nomadism is actually on the rise. In fact, the population of digital nomads in the U.S. has increased nearly 50% since 2019,” Sara Sutton, Founder, and CEO of FlexJobs stated in the news release.
So, just what kind of companies are embracing this new world of remote work? The list does contain quite a variety, but three blockchain companies took up three spots: Chainlink Labs (they offer smart contracts), Protocol Labs (a research and development company using decentralization), and Kraken (an exchange platform for cryptocurrencies).
Perhaps it isn’t too surprising that three different blockchain-related companies made this list. After all, remote work is a newer concept, relatively speaking. Blockchain and cryptocurrency aren’t exactly old hat, either. So it might follow that those in this particular industry may be more willing to embrace change--especially change that allows them to expand their hiring pool in today’s job market.
The Benefits of Remote Work
Working outside of the office comes with amazing perks. Employees no longer waste time driving to and from work or taking public transit. There are no distracting coworkers around to talk your ear off for two hours about nothing. And some remote positions offer plenty of flexibility, as long as the work gets done.
Potential Downside of Remote Work
On the other hand, working from home can have some potential downsides, if you’re not careful. It’s not a role that works well for everyone, because you need to have the self-discipline to get your work done and not binge on Netflix, for example.
Plus, working from home means there’s no clear time to clock out from work. Some people may find themselves working far longer than they want because it’s hard to shut down for the day when your work is just steps away. For some people, remote work can also feel isolated--especially if they live alone.
Solutions for WFH Problems
If you do find yourself working far too often now that your office is at home, there are some things you can do. For instance, set a timer for whatever time of day you should really stop working. No, you don’t have to drop everything and run away from your home office then. Just aim to end work for the day shortly after that timer goes off.
If it helps, try writing down some notes for yourself at the end of the day. It can calm your mind if you find yourself thinking anxiously about all the things to do the next day. Plus, it will help make sure you’re not forgetting to do your tasks.
Once your workday “officially” ends, close the door to your office if you can. If you don’t have a dedicated office, then put away your computer and any paper files strewn about. Putting away those visual cues about work can keep you from feeling guilty about not working all night.
If you feel lonely when working at home, prioritize lunch or coffee with friends. Or schedule a grocery run--you’re bound to have to talk to the cashier, at least. Consider joining a networking group or a coworking space, if you’re lucky enough to have one nearby. Sometimes, simply working near other people can combat loneliness.
Work Smart When Working Remotely
Whether you work for a blockchain company or another industry, remember to work smart when you work remotely. Pay attention to any problems that pop up for you and act accordingly to balance them out.
