Canto, a Cosmos-based layer-1 blockchain, has been unavailable for over 33 hours. The team cites "a consensus issue" as the cause. They aim to solve the problem with an update on August 12 at noon UTC.
The latest transaction happened on August 11 at 2:29 a.m. Block explorers confirm a pause of activity. Canto assures users that the funds are safe. They expect normal activities to resume following the update.
Canto debuted in August 2022 as a blockchain for DeFi apps and is Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible. The blockchain had a boom in activity in February 2023. However, it has now plummeted to 80th rank in terms of total value locked.
The last update, Callisto, was due for August 9. Canto has not said if this is connected to the present outage. The team intended to switch to Ethereum as a layer-2 network. They overturned the ruling in March 2024.
Despite the disruption, the Canto team is hopeful. Once addressed, they anticipate that all functions will resume regular operation.
