The SEC's lawsuit against Coinbase has progressed, and a date has now been set for the opening arguments. New York judge Katherine Polk Failla granted the combined request from the SEC and Coinbase to hold hearings.
Both parties agreed to specific dates and periods for document submission. However, they couldn't agree on the SEC's opposition brief deadline.
The SEC requested 60 days, while Coinbase proposed 30 days. Judge Failla approved Coinbase's deadline for the opening brief and supporting materials.
She also settled the dispute by setting a submission deadline of October 10, 2023, for the SEC's opposition brief, with Coinbase's response due by October 24 or earlier.
In response to the lawsuit, Coinbase has temporarily halted new asset staking for customers in California, New Jersey, South Carolina, and Wisconsin.
