Jupiter, a major exchange aggregator, warned on Monday, August 19th, of a rogue Chrome plugin targeting Solana DeFi users. The Bull Checker extension, pushed by the Reddit username Solana_OG, enabled users to interact with dApps. However, it had a dark twist.
Users installed the extension to access dApps. Transactions seemed normal during the simulation. Tokens were, however, discreetly moved to another wallet without the user's knowledge.
Jupiter advised users to delete the extension immediately. They also suggested care when using other extensions that have significant untrusted permissions.
This incident occurs at a difficult moment for Solana. The network has recently seen major outflows. Over the last week, $39M has left the ecosystem as memecoin trade activity has declined. The network's net flow has reduced to -0.22M, showing a reduction in demand for Solana ETPs and memecoins.
The crypto community remains on edge. This incident serves as a sharp reminder of the need for security in the DeFi community. Users must use caution and ensure the safety of any extensions or tools they use. The Solana ecosystem confronts problems as it attempts to regain consumer trust and halt the torrent of outflows.
