US Rep. Tom Emmer questioned the impartiality of Gary Gensler, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman, during a hearing on September 27.
Gensler, who spent 18 years working for Goldman Sachs, insisted that despite his significant Wall Street experience, he is capable of regulating impartially.
Emmer, a proponent of cryptocurrencies who has received significant funding from the securities and investment sectors, alleges that the SEC's regulatory strategy favors major financial intermediaries. Gensler could only respond to Emmer's inquiries with a simple "yes" or "no," with no explanation.
Rep. Patrick McHenry, who accused Gensler of limiting the digital asset ecosystem and a lack thereof, mentioned the prospect of subpoenaing the SEC for information on the FTX case.
