Tether is improving the payment experience on The Open Network (TON) using the Oobit mobile app. Merchants can now accept both Tether (USDT) and Tether Gold (XAUt).
Tether has moved over $200M Since its TON launch in April — with users even transacting via Telegram conversations.
The move will not only improve convenience but will also transform financial access. USDT is already on 14 blockchains. Oobit's revolutionary Tap & Pay functionality allows customers to pay in USDT while merchants receive local money. This also makes Tether even more useful in the real world.
Tether's commitment to bridging the banking gap is made clear in its investment in Oobit. Back in February, the company raised $25M with the support of the stablecoin issuer. Tether is also expanding through expanded stakes in CityPay.io, bringing payment options to eastern countries.
Oobit has proven to be a game-changer. Its NFC-enabled software appeared in 2022, and by September 2023, it had included the Tap & Pay feature, widening its scope to include VeChain's VET token as well.
